electro-music 2010 Festival
September 10, 11, 12 The electro-music¿ festival is the world's premiere event for experimental electronic music. This three day conference/music festival includes concerts, seminars, demonstrations, and jam sessions. The scope is very broad, covering all aspects of electro-music: experimental electronic music, circuit bending, computer music, electro-jazz, modular synthesis, musique concrete, improvisation, algorithmic composition, multi-media, visual art and much more. The focus will be on participant involvement, sharing, community development, audience education, and great music. You can actively participate in electro-music 2010 by performing music or visuals, giving a seminar, workshop, or demonstration, joining the jam sessions, or by volunteering to help with various tasks. Electro-music.com is an international community of composers and musicians that share a passion for electro-music. The community exists to create its own critical mass; to enable its members to develop music on their own terms. Electro-music is new music; still undefined; happening all over our planet. Electro-music is the natural result of two techno/social trends: the availability of low-cost powerful electronic music technology, and the communication revolution enabled by the internet. Electro-music is not defined by a particular style or sound, but by its primary motivation being the joy of creation, and the love of electronic sounds; it crosses many genres. Erik Wøllo
October 16 On Saturday, October 16, at 8:00 pm, The Gatherings Concert Series will present Erik Wøllo. Erik Wøllo grew up in a small mountain village in Norway where his ancestors have lived and farmed for hundreds of years. Weaving through this exotic and timeless landscape of snowy peaks and deep valleys, you can still hear the music of those centuries flowing through a people whose culture is deep, alive and thriving. Erik Wøllo's musical experience covers a wide range of styles from rock and jazz to classical and ambient. He creates music that is both lyrical and rhythmic, focusing on melody and structure. Wollo has composed and performed music for films, theatre, ballets and exhibitions as well as composing for strings, woodwinds and larger orchestra. As a guitarist he has lead his own groups, playing at clubs, concert halls and festivals. Best known for albums of electronic landscapes, Erik Wøllo actually generates most of his music using a guitar interfaced with a synthesizer. Commenting on his international image, Wølllo says, "Generally, I do not consider myself solely as an electronic artist. I am primarily a guitarist, which I first picked up at age 11." Yet with his first solo album Traces, Wøllo became the first musician in Norway to utilize the synthesizer in his music, and has been closely associated with the technology ever since. |
